What is the difference between Royal Purple’s HPS and API-licensed synthetic motor oils?
Royal Purple’s API-licensed* engine oils carry the current American Petroleum Institute (API) engine oil licenses and meet or exceed the current International Lubricant Standardization and Approval Committee (ILSAC) engine oil specifications. The Royal Purple Euro-spec engine oil formulations (SAE 0W-40 and SAE 5W-40) also meet Association des Constructeurs Européens d’Automobiles (ACEA)A3/B3 performance requirements for passenger car and light truck gasoline and diesel engine oils. Meeting these industry specifications is typically the minimum requirement for compliance with new vehicles.
Over the last several years, the API and ILSAC specifications have become increasingly restrictive on certain engine oil additives, particularly those commonly used for anti-wear.
